Christ's Love The Transfiguration

The two of these painting were done to complete a triptych in the chapel of Grace Church in Perth Amboy,  NJ. The original existing painting is of the dead body of Christ at the foot of the cross, stylized after Michelangelo's "Pieta".  After looking at that painting for several years, I sent a proposal to the Church Council to create a triptych showing 1) Christ teaching, 2) Christ's death, and 3) Christ's ascension.  These two paintings, added to the first, complete the triptych.
      

While the church was celebrating it's 100th year anniversary in 2003, these two paintings were hung behind the alter, beneath the cross.

After posting this page on my web site, I had the pleasure to receive email from Dr. Herrmann von Vogelstein in Numberg, Germany, a descendent of the artist whose painting I copied.  He wrote to express how happy he was to find that his ancestor's work still inspires and that it is now represented here in the US, as well as in Europe.  It was a great pleasure to hear these kind words from the good Doctor.
